MARTIAL ARTS FOR CHILDREN

If you are between 13 and 17 years of age we have classes just for you - check out Junior Combat Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts

Most parents or guardians who enquire about martial arts for their children are looking for something with discipline - a focus for their kids' energy within a strong set of boundaries.  Many are interested in self-defence, some are more concerned with fitness.  Sadly, we also have those whose children are getting bullied and who are looking for something to help their situation.  Perhaps, your reasons are different.  The potential benefits of studying a Martial Art are countless, but before anything is possible the children in question must first want to train - this means that they have to want to learn and they have to enjoy what they are learning.

Handstand KickTeaching children requires passion and commitment.  Children will see right through an Instructor who does not love their art or who has no time to listen to each individual.  Children need to feel safe in their environment.  They need to be able to trust their instructor, to talk to them on their terms and to be taught in a language that they understand.  Simple, but powerful principles.

At Attitude we are by no means traditional; we do not stand and shout, our classes are varied and fun.  We have times when we focus and train hard, we have times when we play and let off steam.  Respect is earned rather than demanded.  We teach our students to think for themselves rather than to learn parrot fashion - we encourage them to develop their own ideas and abilities individually.  That said there is no doubt as to what is expected of our children or where the boundaries lie in communication and behaviour.  Whenever we have the opportunity we like to take the time to get to know our students and their families; the more support and encouragement our juniors receive the better they will feel about themselves and the more they will improve both physically and mentally.

We restrict our class sizes to ensure a safe and productive training environment.  We work on a bookings-only basis, commiting students to regular training days.   There are many benefits to operating in this way - students are given a greater opportunity to develp social bonds with familiar classmates, we can plan our classes around the students and offer far more productive training, we know exactly who is in our building and can therefore offer a very secure and safe environment for you and your children.  Class sizes are restricted to 10 students in Lil' Dragons, 14 students in Junior Warriors, 12 in Junior Kickboxing and Junior MMA.

THE BENEFITS

Martial Arts is not just about the fighting; in order to kick, punch and wrestle we need to also work on our strength, stability and cardio vascular fitness.  We try to instill in our juniors the importance of exercise and take them through a lot of bodyweight callisthenics on a regular basis - this is basically just lifting your own bodyweight.  This type of exercise involves no external force and is suitable for all ages.

Through both Martial Arts skill training and regular exercise you can expect to see and improvement in co-ordination and balance, increased fitness, stength and flexibility, greater confidence and self-esteem.  Your children will learn a lot about their body and what they are capable of both physically and mentally.

None of this will happen overnight - like most skills they will take time to develop.  If your interest is in self-defence, please be aware that we are not teaching your children to fight someone twice their size with kicks and punches - we are teaching them self-awareness, confidence and self-control.  If you are concerned that our skills training will not be appropriate please contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
