Lil' Dragons grade in a similar manner to the rest of the Academy. Grading is a traditional way for us to examine our students and determine their standard of Martial Arts. We look at areas such as technical standard and understanding, also how much effort they put in and the attitude each student presents. We ask to see different techniques to pass each belt as detailed in our Lil' Dragons syllabus. Naturally, when grading students of a very young age allowance is made for differences in age and learning ability. Grading is also the time when we complete our Safety and Life Skills and award the Lil' Dragons patches. Although Grading is a formal affair all students respond differently, it is natural to be nervous. It may help to know that the Grading Examiners are also the Lil' Dragon Instructors; so students will see a known and friendly face. Also all gradings are held at the Academy in surroundings familiar to the students. Grading is the time when our Lil' Dragons get the chance to stand up without our help and show us what they know. We cannot actively show them what to do on the day but the Grading Examiners will do their best to assist and help students to pass within the grading boundaries. Lil' Dragons gradings are held 3-4 times a year depending upon student attendance and ability, and will last up to 1 1/2 hours. Grading notice will be given 2-3 weeks before the grading. Students who are eligible to grade will receive a letter with all relevant grading information. The Lil' Dragons will find out on the grading day if they have passed and will be awarded with their belt and certificate straight away. Gradings are a challenge for all students, however we would never allow a student to grade if we did not think they were capable of passing. Gradings are not compulsary; your children do not have to ever enter a grading if they do not want to. The study of a Martial Art is a very personal pursuti and grading is and individual challenge.
The Lil' Dragons belt system differs from the rest of the Academy; we have eight belts in the Lil' Dragon program, each is White with a different colour stripe running through the centre. When our Lil' Dragons are ready to move into an older class they will take part in their first Junior Warriors grading where they would be examined up to 8th Kyu Yellow Belt Cadet. LIL' DRAGONS BELTS
