THE ACADEMY Attitude Martial Arts Academy was born out of the desire to create a training environment where we could meet the needs of each individual. We wanted to teach smaller classes and offer a personal, safe and professional service. The goal was to develop an Academy that was not only practical but clean and well maintained, offering good facilities and equipment. In September 2000 Attitude Martial Arts Academy opened it's doors for the first time. We have come a long way since then, building both our reputation and our member base. We now carry over 250 students, however our principles remain the same; - At Attitude we restrict our class sizes to ensure a greater level of safety and focus along with more personal training. Our bookings only system allows us to plan ahead and prepare classes to suit the needs of our students and ensure appropriate study. We keep a clean and well equipped Dojo with good basic member facilities. We pride ourselves on our honest, efficient service and endeavour to offer you everything you need to train in martial arts including encouragement and friendship. We teach a variety of students from a very early age and with varying capabilities and goals. We have our standards and do not necessarily make it easy. We believe that training and progression should take time – it is not just about physical prowess but mental and spiritual growth. If you are looking for an easy session or a quick journey to black belt, then we are not the Academy for you. Our classes are tough and we have a reputation for training hard. Our Instructors are experienced and knowledgeable professionals who would not ask anything of their students they would not be willing to do themselves. We do not sell ourselves with glossy brochures or fancy adverts, we do not pretend to be something we are not and we would never try to attract students with false promises or misleading information. THE INSTRUCTORS
Sensei Gary Hewitt is Chief Instructor of Attitude Martial Arts Academy and holds a 5th Dan grade in Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing. He has been training and teaching since he was 15 years old (that's over 20 years ago!) and continues to run rings around us all. He is very knowledgeable on all areas of fitness and personal training and is an experienced and well qualified sports coach. He dedicated many of his early years in martial arts to competing and studying different styles. His energy is now directed into the develpment of the Academy and it's students. As Chief Instructor, Sensei Gary oversees all of the technical work and training programs in effect at Attitude. Sensei Amanda Hewitt is the Academy Secretary in charge of all administration, student contact and enquiries, advertising and promotion, equipment sales, licencing, website and anything involving a computer! She ensures that the service offered at the Academy is efficient and professional. She has been training in Martial Arts for nearly 10 years and holds a 2nd Dan in Combat Kickboxing. As well as running the day to day operations and teaching adult classes, Sensei Amanda is in charge of the development and implementation of the Lil'Dragons program. You will find our Instructors are passionate about their profession and aim to make a positive difference in their sutdents' lives. They are honest and set high standards for themselves, and for their students to follow, both personally and professionally.
ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS The Assistant Instructor program is available to students interested in one day becoming an Instructor. Assisting in the teaching of others helps students to learn more about themselves and their own skills, it builds confidence and character. All assistants teach under the supervision of Senior Instructor. These students willingly give up their own time to help coach a number of our Junior classes, and for that we are both grateful and proud. We give thanks to:
