MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

In recent years Mixed Martial Arts has grown to become a massive culture and rapidly growing ring sport.  If you have heard of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Cage Rage, Pride, these are all examples of Mixed Martial Arts in competitive form.

Grapple StanceIn the beginning MMA began as fighters from different styles battled their skills against one another in no holds barred comptetitions.  The competitions have since become more refined and the MMA style has naturally grown.  At one time, students wanting to improve their MMA skills would have to cross train, mixing the study of a striking art alongside the study of a grappling art in order to cover the full range of fighting.  In more current times the MMA style has developed into an art form of it's own, it is this art that we offer at Attitude.

MMA is an all range fighting art teaching how to strike, takedown, wrestle, pin and submit.  The striking is basic and workeable, our groundwork routes can be found in Catch Wrestling and promote very easily comprehended and applicable techniques.  The submissions include an array of chokes and joint locks.  The inherent lack of boundaries within Mixed Martial Arts allows for a constantly developing style that remains practical, and an ideal study for someone who is looking to learn a hard hitting and realistic fighting art.

Our Mixed Martial Arts is a graded style and provides a complete syllabus by which to examine students.

As with all of our martial arts classes the training is physically demanding, this is not the class for you if you are put off by a few aches and pains.  Please also consider that this class will involve physical contact in terms of grappling with other students from day one.  If the thought of being wraggled and wrestling with another person puts you off you should consider a trying one of our other classes instead.

MMA involves potentially very damaging techniques, we are therefore motivated to restrict our class sizes even further (no more than 12 students)to ensure a high level of vigilance and safety for all students.

The main points:

  • You will learn to kick, punch, strike with knees and elbows both to pads and to people, both upright on the floor and any position in between!
  • You will learn how to take an opponent down to the ground and how to hold them there, you will also be on the receiving end of the same.
  • You will learn how to submit an opponent and how to escape the submissions.
  • You will spar, rules will vary but you are still in control of the contact
  • Sparring is not a free-for-all brawl, it is a chance to test and improve the skills that you have been learning.
  • You will not be getting hit in the head on your first lesson!
  • The classes are physically challenging.
  • You will sweat and probably ache a lot, sometimes more than others.
  • Your fitness levels will improve
  • Martial Arts training is a very personal pursuit - through it you will learn a lot about yourself and your abilities.
  • You WILL have fun!
